Fabric is an integral part of your awning. In essence your awning will look as good as the fabric does. In choosing an awning it is therefore very important to make sure that it comes with a Solution-Dyed Fabric that is able to withstand the constant exposure to sun and the changing weather conditions, as we know it here in Canada.
At JANS Awning Products, we only use those fabrics that are recognized throughout the industry and all our awning fabrics come with a minimum 5-year warranty.
Once you have decided to purchase an awning for your Burlington / Oakville deck or patio, your next decision will be what colour fabric will go best with the look of your home. With over 200 colours and patterns available we are sure to come up with a solution that will work for you. During the purchasing process we can come to your home and assist you in making the right choice.
With suppliers such as Sunbrella, Dickson, Symprol and Swela we are confident that you will receive a product that will meet your expectations of variety and quality.
What are Solution-Dyed Fabrics?
Solution-Dyed Acrylic Fibers are created through a unique process that adds pigment during fiber production. These fibers are then spun into yarn resulting in a permeated colour throughout the fabric. Colour and fiber become one complete product - so the colour lasts as long as the fabric does - perfect for outdoors use.
In addition to the solution-dyed process, our fabrics are treated with a fluorocarbon finish that acts as a sealant resistant to water and stains.
What you should know
The nature of the fabric is that, regardless of all the attention that is paid during manufacturing and preparation, you might note some natural "imperfections" after your awning is installed.
- Veining - Subsequent to handling during sewing, fabrication and assembly, acrylic fabrics treated with resins containing fluoride may show "veining" visible against the sunlight caused by an optical effect (differences in the refractions of light).
- White Lines - Subsequent to handling during sewing, fabrication and assembly, acrylic fabrics treated with resins containing fluoride may show small white traces that appear on the fabric due to the stiffness that is caused by the fluoride treatment. These lines are particularly visible in light fabrics as they are held up against the light.
- Folds - As the fabric rolls up along the roll-tube on the awning the seams will roll up with more accumulated material than the areas surrounding it. This difference in thickness may cause the fabric to wrinkle slightly around the seams.
These small irregularities in your fabric do not require a change of fabric. On the other hand, if you notice the slightest problem concerning the major qualities of your fabric - within its 5-year warranty - colour hold, rot proof nature, strength - we invite you to let us know.
Awning Fabric Care and Cleaning
Regardless of the above there is a need to treat your fabric with some TLC. Solution-dyed fabrics should be cleaned regularly before substances such as dirt and pollen, etc., are allowed to accumulate and become embedded in the fabric.
The fabric can be cleaned without being removed from the awning. Simply brush off any loose dirt, clean with water and a mild natural soap (luke-warm) and rinse thoroughly with a regular garden hose to remove soap. When using liquid detergent it may be necessary to reapply a water repellant treatment, such as Fabric Guard that is available at your local hardware store or through JANS Awning Products. For more information about cleaning your fabric please visit the Sunbrella web site.
Before retracting your awning for a longer period of time always allow the fabric to dry to prevent mildew and rot.
Time and weather eventually take their toll on awning fabric. It his is the case, you may need Jans Awning Products awning recover services. With our awning recovery, we can take old frames and update the fabric to modern styles and fade resistant materials.
For a commercial look and more practical application, vinyl offers a low maintenance solution. Different suppliers offer different solutions varying from heavy-duty vinyl patio covers to backlit vinyl that accommodates crisp illuminated graphics.
